THE PROCESS

  • The first step is to gather inspiration and conduct research. This may involve exploring fashion trends, studying historical references, analyzing fabric swatches, or observing the world around you. Inspiration can come from various sources, such as art, nature, culture, or personal experiences.

  • Based on the gathered inspiration, Samantha begins to develop a concept for the garment. This involves sketching initial ideas, creating mood boards, or even draping fabric on a dress form to visualize potential silhouettes and details.

  • Once the concept is solidified, Samantha creates detailed sketches of the garment(s). These sketches outline the overall shape, proportions, and key design elements, helping to translate the concept into a tangible representation.

  • Pattern making involves translating the design sketches into paper or digital patterns that serve as blueprints for cutting and assembling the fabric. Precise measurements and calculations are used to create patterns for different garment components, such as bodices, sleeves, and skirts.

  • During the fitting process, Samantha examines the sample on a dress form or a model, identifying any fit or design issues. Adjustments are made to the pattern and sample accordingly, ensuring the garment achieves the desired fit and aesthetic.

  • After perfecting the sample, Samantha proceeds to cut and assemble the garment using the chosen fabrics. This involves carefully following the patterns, stitching together the various components, and adding necessary closures, embellishments, or details.

It takes one idea to bring your story to fruition.
