ABOUT FIVE YEARS
Much like the song titled Five Years that David Bowie wrote for Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, after experimenting with becoming Major Tom; he has an encounter with the fifties rock n’ roller, Vince Taylor, who was found drinking heavily and off his rocker speaking gibberish of being an alien god on earth. This encounter inspires his epiphany that in order to be someone, that he needed to become someone else, thus Ziggy Stardust is born. His outlandish story and behavior attracted the attention he needs to tour in America, and expand his story to believe he actually is a prophet and that his fans are his disciples. From then on, he created 3 more alter egos before his visions and narcotics pushed him too far.
It had been five years from the day he created Ziggy to the day he decided to kill the Thin White Duke, and overall killing every ego he made himself out to be (1972-1977).
This collection isn’t only a story of his journey but rather digging deeper to the struggles, the ridicule, and his relationships that drove him to be the icon he was then and the legend he still is. To all of the other weirdos who love David Bowie as much as I do, this one is for you.
